I create limited edition linocuts from my home studio near Needham Market in Suffolk. Black and white designs have a bold, graphic quality where I enjoy the mark-making potential of the medium. Colour designs are created using the 'reduction method' where each colour is printed one at a time and further lino is carved away in between printing.
My inspiration comes from sketching trips in the Suffolk countryside and along the coastline. Designs start with observational sketchbook studies and evolve through the printmaking process back in the studio. I aim to achieve images that celebrate both the beauty of the place and the natural qualities of linocut.
I gained my degree (BA Hons: Art Practice and Theory) at Lancaster University in 2001 where I made my first etchings and monoprints. After moving to Suffolk, I did printmaking courses at Suffolk College and Gainsborough's House Print Workshop.
